MEDICARE BENEFICIARY ELIGIBILITY BATCH TRANSACTION
GOLDEN I is a program for the PC that will enable you to send inquires
to Medicare concerning your Medicare patients, and print out the
information you receive from Medicare under what Medicare calls Beneficiary
Eligibility Batch Transaction.
With Batch Transaction certain information concerning your
patients has to be transmitted to Medicare in a very specific
format by a PC and modem. Medicare will output a response file,
which is downloaded by a modem into your PC. The output file
contains information concerning patient eligibility and deductible
status. The data is controlled by the Federal Privacy Act.
The deductible status information shows that the deductible has
either been met or not met. No dollar amounts are shown.
HMO status will be shown.
GOLDEN I is menu driven, and very easy to use. You will need a PC,
modem, and software that will enable your modem to communicate with other
modems, and a printer.
Call your Medicare carrier in order to get the phone number to transmit the
batch file, and the modem settings.
You may need to get an account number and a password from you Medicare
carrier. You will have to provide your Medicare carrier with your
Submitter Id. Number (SYSTEM ID OF PROVIDER). This is the number assigned to
you for electronic claims submission. In some areas this is called the
BILLING LOCATION CODE.
Until you receive a new Medicare Provider Number the Medicare Provider Number
that you list in the program should be the first seven digits of your
Medicare Provider Number. After you receive a new ten digit
Medicare Provider Number, which should happen in 1997, the
entire new ten digit number should be entered in the GOLDEN I program.
When you contact Medicare about using GOLDEN I you should ask HOW MANY DIGITS
of your Medicare Provider Numnber should be used in case there have been
any changes since this readme.doc file was written.
A test file will have to be transmitted, and discuss that with your
Medicare Carrier.
Read the information that Medicare provides. This information is on the
program disk in a file called Medicare.Doc. This is a direct copy of
information that Medicare supplied.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
GOLDEN I can be run from the floppy drive, but it will run faster from
the hard drive. All files must be in the same sub-directory.
To run from the hard drive all program files must be installed on
the C: drive in a sub-directory named GOLDENI. C:\GOLDENI\
If the floppy disk is in drive A: at A:> type "installa" and hit the enter key
If the floppy disk is in drive B: at B:> type "installb" and hit the enter key
All program files will be installed on hard drive C: in a sub-directory named
GOLDENI. C:\GOLDENI\
To start the program C:\GOLDENI\GOLDENI and hit the enter key.
UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
Records marked O.K. to send to Medicare will be transmitted to Medicare.
GOLDEN I will make a file to be uploaded to Medicare. In the set up part of
program you will have to give the file a name. The file must have .ELI as the
extension. When GOLDEN I makes a file to be uploaded the send box will be
set to "N" for all records that are included in the upload file. This will
give you better control over not sending duplicate requests to Medicare,
because Medicare does not want inquires beyond a certain ratio.
See the file Medicare.Doc for more information.
DOWNLOADING INSTRUCTIONS and REPORTS:
According to Medicare a repsonse to your request file should be ready in one
to two days. Follow the menu from your carrier to download the response file.
GOLDEN I will be looking for the response file that you receive from Medicare.
Medicare will tell you the name of the file. Write down the name of the file.
You must enter the exact file name including the extension in the part of
GOLDEN I that produces reports. Reports can be printed on paper, and are
automatically stored as text files, and automatically posted to the patient
database.

OTHER SOFTWARE PRODUCTS BEING OFFERED BY GOLDEN SOFTWARE ARE:
THE PARTY ORGANIZER - a program to organize large parties such as weddings and
Bar Mitzvahs. It will organize the guest list for invitations, RSVP list,
seating at tables, meals ordered, gift list, hotel list of out of town guests,
and the budget. The program may be purchased directly from the above for
$25 plus sales tax, or a demo version may be downloaded from America Online or
ZD Net if available.
The downloaded demo version enables one to purchase the full version for $15
by following the purchase instructions in the demo version.
GOLDEN BILLER - a program to submit claims electronically through
Michigan Blue Cross EDI for BCBSM, MEDICARE, and commercial insurance
allowed through Michigan Blue Cross EDI. Electronic claims directly to PPOM.
Patients are maintained in a database for easy lookup, and so is everything
else that goes on a claim. GOLDEN BILLER is very easy to use, and it is
fast. The Medicare EOBs will show if the patient had Blue Cross
as the secondary insurance. A nice feature to quickly spot claims that did
not cross over. It will rapidly cross over to Blue Cross the Medicare
claims that do not automatically cross over and also Medicaid calims.
The Medicare and Blue Cross EOBs will show what the patient paid.
This program is far superior to programs which require all data to be
entered every time a claim is generated. It is economical.
A GOLDEN BILLER DEMO is available. The demo will allow you to use the full
program for a while. Contact T. A. Golden for further details.
